Krishna Janmashtami, a hindu festival remarking as the birth of Lord Krishna, one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu is observing in Nepal and India today. It is important festival for Nepalese hindu devotees falling on the month of September (Bhadra). On the auspicious occasion, the krishna Temples around the nation are crowded by the devotees offering flowers, prayers, food and sweets to the Lord Krishna.

How Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated ?

Krishna Janmashtami also known as Srikrishna Jayanti is celebrated on the eighth day of the krishna Paksha of the month of Shrawan-Bhadra (August-September) in hindu calender and this year today Bhadra 19 2072 (September 05, 2015), the festival is being observed in Nepal, India and around the world by the Hindu people. In Nepal this festival is important festival after the Janai Purnima and before the Teej Festival and women specially pray the God Krishna in the Krishna Temple. On this day, the president of Nepal, Ram Baran Yadav, the head of the nation also offers prayers at Krishna Temple in Patan Durbar Square. Hindus celebrate the festival by fasting and staying up until midnight playing sacred devotional music, sing religious songs called bhajans and chant the slokas from the Bhagvad Gita.

Who is Lord Krishna ?

Lord Krishna was born as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudeva as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the myth, he was born to kill his wicked maternal uncle Kansa.
