Ashad 15, National Paddy Day, Nepal and Nepalese people celebrate this day as the festival in Nepal as this is the important day for the plantation of the paddy seedling in the fields as the monsoon starts. During the celebration of the festival, people eat beaten rice and curd, some people are busy on planting the paddy seedling, some are busy on making ready for plantation and some people play with the mud. Ashar 15 is a landmark day in Hindu cultural heritage and regarded as an auspicious day for the paddy plantation. Singing folk songs while planting rice is also an important part of the festival. The government also organises programmes where ministers and high ranking government officers plant rice. The government has been celebrating Ashar 15 as National Paddy Day from 2004.
