Teej Festival Overview
Teej is the greatest festival celebrated by Nepalese women that lasts for three days. It is celebrated in Nepal, Northern and Western India by the Hindu girls and women with the singing songs, dancing and praying. This festival is mainly dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva as the symbol of their union after a long prayer to achieve her goal of marrying Lord Shiva. The festival is celebrated during the monsoon months of July-August-September. It has a great significance in the marital life and celebrated in the seeking of blessings for marital bliss of the couples. The fasting festival of Nepali girls and women, Haritalika Teej is celebrated for three days normally falls on shukla paksha in Bhadrapada or Bhadra month of Nepali calendar and month of August or early september. During the festival, women gather together to enjoy a sumptuous feasts, singing and dancing. On the second day, women go to the Hindu temple to worship parvati and Lord Shiva eating nothing. And on the third day, women traditionally take a bath with red mud extracted from a sacred plant and this act of purification absolves them of their sins.
